Let's say that the 2008 campaign wound up being the matchup most people were predicting in the fall of '07.

The Democrats nominate Hillary Clinton. Her running mate is Gen. Wesley Clark.

The Republicans nominate Mitt Romney. His running mate is Tim Pawlenty.

What does the electoral map look like?

My guess:

Clinton/Clark (D): 402 EV, 54% p.v.
Romney/Pawlenty (R): 136, 45% p.v.

Clinton was by no way my favorite candidate in the Democratic field. And I believe she would perform better than Obama in general, yet still winning. Republicans had no chances after economic crisis broken out.
