I agree, 2016 or 2020, but not 2012.

Yeah, he certainly has a chance. Its rather sickening that these are the sort of factors that constantly come into play in predicting who will be nominated for the presidency rather than considering who is the most principled and qualified. We haven't even seen what kind of governor McDonnell is and we're talking about a presidential run.

I'm pretty certain that his thesis has rendered him unelectable in a national election, even as a VP candidate. This type of controversy may not have mattered in an overwhelmingly Republican election given the issues facing Virginia at the time, but in a national election with a broader issue focus, he would be flushed out to sea in an instant.

A run in 2012 - no.

If Obama wins in 2012, I'm sure he'll run in 2016.

If Obama loses in 2012, that counts him out for 2016 as well.  He might play a major risk and challenge Mark Warner in 2014 instead - which would be horrible.

for 2012 he's 100% VP material and 0% P material.  He'll be too busy governing during a difficult time to run for president.  If Obama got elected in 2005 instead of 2004, and Obama was a legislator mind you not an executive, he wouldn't have been able to run for president.

He would have to do an amazing job of being Governor if he wanted to come close to beating Warner in 2014

Governors rarely get picked for VP anymore, and the one recent example of it happening (Palin) was a bit of a fiasco.  So I'm doubtful that the 2012 GOP presidential nominee is going to want to take another risk on a governor with only a few years' experience.

Though, as you've said before, what if Palin herself is the 2012 GOP presidential nominee (very unlikely, but not impossible)?  She'd be more likely to take a chance like that.

Could she pick Levi as her VP and then sell the movie rights for her campaign for $100 million?
