There are some really odd definitions of "liberal" going on here.  Suburbs = liberal?  Exurban Phoenix = liberal?

So, why do the liberal hippies of Asheville vote for Bush?

Kerry won Asheville city, 60% to 39%.  Bush landslided the rest of the county (not so much suburbs as satellite towns).  I'm not sure I'd call a >1/3 black city that gave Kerry 60% "hippie," but it's liberal.

Anyone know much about Swannanoa?  It's a small town outside of Asheville that voted Kerry.  It's heavily white, but seems identical to the other parts of the county where Bush landslided.  It was a close victory (carried by one of three precincts) though.

Oops.  Did a ZIP code instead of the city as a whole...sorry nclib, you're right.

I'm surprised no one else figured out Earl's point with that list.

Hint: Go look at how those counties actually voted.

I did, from memory...I just assumed most people did too, so I didn't bother pointing it out.

Latah wins I think. Lots of Democratic Indians

Latah barely has any Indians at all...they barely outnumber blacks.

Are you sure it has any? A lot of those supposed "Indians" are really just white guys trying to get attention.

I'm not sure how rampant Census fudging is, but I think the vast, vast majority of people are honest.

And, yes, I'm relatively sure that such a populous county in the Pacific Northwest will have at least one Indian.
