Pretty interesting shifts - 1978 in particular, midterms wise. 51-48 is pretty interesting given how that era actually turned out for the Senate.

I'm not sure Ronald Reagan would have won in 1976 but that's an interesting thought nonetheless. Good work.

Republicans probably would've been better off if Reagan didn't win, because then Carter would fail, and Reagan or another Republican would be back in 1980. I can actually see Reagan winning the nomination a second time if he lost in 1976.

That's true enough, actually. Reagan could have won the nomination a second time I agree - but it would have been tougher in 1980 if he had been the nominee in 1976 and lost.
