i think my views are very similar to robert kennedy's.  i have a passion for social justice.

rfk was also no friend of the unions.  while he was more committed to the poor than almost any other 20th century politican, he prefered expanding economic oppurtunites over giving handouts (sadly, the dems lost their way on that issue)

the only major disagreement i have with rfk was his dove-like views with regards to vietnam.  however, i must say im not convinced he was as opposed to the war as he pretended to be.  throughout his career he was a hawk.  he jumped on the anti-war bandwagon in the hopes it would carry him to the white house.

I think I'm a mix between Hubert Humphrey and FDR. I have Humphrey's personality, but I have FDR's political tact. (Sorry if that sounds a bit snobbish, it's not intended to).

I would like to consider myself somewhat similiar to Bill Clinton. I recognize the benefits of government-reducing reforms and the passing of the era of unions, but feel that it is still possible and desirable to have a policy that gives the poor and an equal opportunity to succeed. On foreign policy, I am no isolationist but also feel that the neo-cons are foolhardly ideologues whose strategy is doomed to fail and do unspeakable damage in the process.

He die?  Wink

I don't know enough about politicians in the 19th century to make a decent judgment about most of them, but for the 20th I'll say Truman.  Foreign poicy is my big thing and I highly approve of things he did like the Marshall Plan.

I was unaware of the fact that Bill Clinton was dead. Tongue

Regarding the question at hand, I honestly have no idea.  I have pretty good senses of what some historical politicians were like but not really enough to pin myself to one of them.

Putting Honest before Abe is a disgrace to the word "honest". Smiley

I like to think of myself as a reincarnation of Lyndon B. Johnson.

The whole violent streak you have does fit well with him.

Herbert Hoover, though he was only a politician for 4 years.

An actual politician like me would have to be William E. Miller.

Edmund Burke in that I believe the job of the elected official is to govern according to what he believes is right, not what the majority of the constituents want. Winston Churchill in that any surrender to a dictator merely empowers him and whets his appetite, while weakening dmocracy; only a difficult struggle can bring evil to heel. Ronald Reagan in that I believe very strongly in the strength and character and fundamental rightness of tis country, as well as his determination to confront evil. Woodrow Wilson in that the only safe world is a free world, democracies are quite stable and do not war with one another. Vladimir Jabotinsky and Menachem Begin "liberal" Zionism (ie, nationalist, non-socialist).

FDR, with less socialism and no huge physical disabilities Smiley

But we're both 'higher' class liberals.

Although I have no clue.

Anyone care to venture a guess?

(note: I was compared to Ralph Nader and Tom Vilsack in the other thread)

You remind me of B. Gratz Brown, the 1872 Democratic Nominee for President.

You most match Jefferson Davis or Jospeph E. Brown with your calls for states's rights and your strong Southern nationalism.
