It depends on the issue and the candidate. Personally I think the abortion and gay marriage issues are both overblown, but I wouldn't vote for someone with a very aggressive foreign policy or especially bad record on civil liberties like a lot of the GOP (especially Giuliani and now McCain). Likewise I think tax raises are sometimes necessary and universal healthcare are both needed but I don't like the protectionism and other big government ideas a lot of the Dems were/are running on (particularly Edwards). I could vote for a Social Conservative and/or an Economic Liberal depending on the circumstances and their platform as a whole.
