It depends on the issue and the candidate. Personally I think the abortion and gay marriage issues are both overblown, but I wouldn't vote for someone with a very aggressive foreign policy or especially bad record on civil liberties like a lot of the GOP (especially Giuliani and now McCain). Likewise I think tax raises are sometimes necessary and universal healthcare are both needed but I don't like the protectionism and other big government ideas a lot of the Dems were/are running on (particularly Edwards). I could vote for a Social Conservative and/or an Economic Liberal depending on the circumstances and their platform as a whole.

I consider both equally even though sometimes I may seem more passionate about social issues.

Competence can trump issues. Though spending is a big issue for me now, health care and welfare secondly, education, the environment, abortion after that. So I guess economic, though it depends on your classification of issues. Immigration can be both a social issue (civil rights) and an economic issue (jobs, pay). Most social issues are unimportant; largely those pushed only by religion - school prayer, evolution, gay marriage. However, the death penalty, euthanasia, abortion, anything to do with life is very important in my eyes.

Economic for non-national-level candidates, foreign for House, Senate, and President.
