My dad voted for Ron Paul in 2008 and owns a copy of atlas shrugged.

Everything I've known to be true about my life is a lie.

That much was always obvious from your posting history.

I voted for Ron Paul in the 2008 Republican caucus and I own a copy of Atlas Shrugged.

Does that mean my son won't like unions or Mountain Dew?  I just hope no one ever gives him one.  As it is, he can't sit still for more than about five seconds.

I'll be honest with you.  I've thought of it many times.  I always have to get the old lady's okay about what he eats or drinks.  She's quite militant about his dietary intake.  So when I brought it up she nearly shit a brick.  It was very clear that she wasn't into giving the boy any booze.

Did I ever mention that the first time my dad ever got me drunk I was seven?  It was with brandy.  We sat up and drank a bottle of brandy together when I was 7 and he was 37.  My mom freaked out about it.  My memory is a little rusty, but I do remember that things were very tense between them for a couple of days afterward.

I guess women just don't see things the way men do.  Probably, that's for the best.

Your dad is an FF. Except for, you know, the whole Ayn Rand nonsense. I don't approve of that.

Perhaps, as long as you remember they don't give a damn about you, only their own security, progeny, etc.

Publishing such sorry ramblings as are contained in her books, thus submitting herself to public humiliation, goes against "enlightened self-interest", so this shouldn't come us a surprise. (The bizarro cult that sprung up around her ramblings was not a foreseeable event.)

I wonder if you Dad actually managed to get through actually reading Atlas Shrugged - a turgid and repetitive tome that needed drastic editing, and a more opaque punch line that one would not be able to figure out so early on in the novel.  The Fountain Head is a much better read, particularly for architecture philes like myself.

Anyway, the Paul vote is a bit disturbing, I must admit. Sad

It isn't really misogyny to recognize that women care about themselves and their bratlings, not their mates (who are after all replaceable).  Its just obvious evolutionary rationale, as well as the experience of any man who's dealt with them.  That's not to say there isn't still something called 'love' - if you give them a rousing rogering every once in a while, and a deep v*****l o****m when you do, then they'll most definitely fixate strongly on you.  This is a nice side effect of the sex drive, but to expect it to supercede the dictates of genes and hormones is unrealistic.

I was watching a special on cable TV last evening called I Just Found Out About My Dad.  I was reminded of your thread.  Folks were asked when they found out about their dads, and they'd respond with answers like "I found out while I was in prison" or "I found out at his funeral" or "I found out one day when I came home from school early and he was upstairs in his room naked with the lawn boy."

Of course, they weren't finding out that their fathers voted for Ron Paul and owned copies of Atlas Shrugged, but something different.  Something much less important, apparently, given the fact that they weren't freaking quite as much as you are.
