Brighton and Hove election maps.

As I am bored and should be working on my dissertation, I've made some maps..

These are Brighton and Hove council elections, which were held in May 2003. vote per centages are based on the candidates who polled the most for each party.

Firstly, leading party (majority) by ward:

Now for Labour:



They came first in terms of seats, but the Tories led the popular vote.

More concentrated than I expected, it seems they are learning to work within the FPTP (simple plurality) system..

The Greens have become very effective at FPTP in Brighton. If they can continue their strength there in the next general election, Brighton Pavilion may very well be the first Green Westminster seat after taking a few Labour voters and a lot of Lib Dem strategic votes. On the other hand, I've heard that Keith Taylor and the centre-left Greens have had some rough times in the national party of late as the left-wing activists grow stronger; would you happen to know if Taylor will be running in Brighton Pavilion again?

I'm actually a member of the party (but for very little time) and I come from the former group of Greens, I'm annoyed about Derek Wall becoming priciple speaker (WTF is an "eco-marxist" anyway?). Keith still leaders the Green group on the council and I imagine he certainly will try to run for Pavilion again, and I'd most likely support him..

lol at the "Protest vote party". Also, no BNP candidates this time round, but the UKIP candidate in Hangleton and Knoll could do pretty well..

Also, the Brighton and Hove independents could make things interesting, they have two councillors (both Conservative defectors) in Goldsmid (a very competitive ward, the very light blue one in the first map).

Just curious, which district contains the old Goldstone Ground site?

It's in Stanford (blue, triangular ward next to a green ward and above the very light blue one, Labour's worst result on their map).

I found out exactly which ward it was in by searching the Postcode of the "Toys 'R' Us" which it was built on it..
