WTF is wrong with these people? She makes Mitt Romney look like a PETA member.

https://www.theguardian.com/books/2024/apr/26/trump-kristi-noem-shot-dog-and-goat-book?CMP=edit_2221

“Cricket was a wirehair pointer, about 14 months old,” the South Dakota governor writes in a new book, adding that the dog, a female, had an “aggressive personality” and needed to be trained to be used for hunting pheasant.

What unfolds over the next few pages shows how that effort went very wrong indeed – and, remarkably, how Cricket was not the only domestic animal Noem chose to kill one day in hunting season.

No sense of responsibility, no competence, no ability to make  judgement calls, and killing the victim of her own bad choices - seems like the perfect standard-bearer for the modern GOP.

If America doesn't reject them at the ballot box, Republicans will end up trying to treat the rest of us like Noem treated her dog.

I think this is a bridge too far even for most Republicans.  Her chances of being Trump's running mate just went to zero.

Quote
Dan Lussen, a professional hunting dog trainer, told Rolling Stone that a 14-month-old dog is a “baby that doesn’t know any better.”

“To me, it’s a lack of guidance by the owner, or training by the owner, or discipline of the owner,” he says, explaining that young bird-hunting dogs in training often go through a slow process of introduction to dead fowl before even being around gunshots. “There’s a lot of steps that you take before you take it to a field and shoot birds over it. And then there’s obedience training. Does the dog know how to come when it’s called? Does the dog know how to sit and wait?”

“Why would you put a dog down with these instincts? It’s a hunting dog, and you got chickens — he doesn’t know the difference,” Lussen adds. In his experience, dogs are similar to racehorses in that not “all of them will make it to great stakes,” but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re bad.

Training requires “consistency” he adds. “And it could be an inconvenience to be consistent, or its laziness on the owner’s part. Dogs are lifelong learners, and some [people] think they’re people but they’re not.”

Really quite vile. She didn't bother training a dog before taking it to hunt and then didn't secure it but it's the dog that's less than useless and not her.

No one who brags about killing animals is playing with a full deck. She would be a good match for Trump because they are both messed up.

Cuts to the heart of the “animals are working things/property and only belong outside and I do what o want” that a lot of rural people have. Sick mindset.

Ask that question to the triggered carnivores if they’d eat a dog and they’d be horrified (second, no, I’m not). Though we need to do a LOT better on the treatment of animals raised for slaughter, it’ll help  the animals AND people.

I don't see what the immorality of eating meat and animal products has to do with this criticism.

It’s a normal mindset, I like dogs and see it as a pet, but if a dog is a work animal there’s nothing wrong with treating it as one, as long as you don’t commit animal abuse.

I don't know why he cut off his screenshot right before the very best paragraph of the article:

What's really got me wondering about this story: what editor in his right mind read that part of the manuscript and decided to leave it in the book???

I feel like the bigger question here should be: why the f*** did she decide to include it in the book in the first place?

Killing your dog and then writing about killing your dog and then bragging about it as a "politically incorrect" story to sell your book is such a depraved thing to do, not to mention how massive of a miscalculation it is.

Honestly I think this is one of those things where well-off Democrats and rural Republicans are on completely different pages and neither really grasps how hard the other side disagrees.

"well-off Democrats" and "rural Republicans" is not a binary lol

And no, I don't think the majority of rural Republicans think shooting your dog because you had no idea how to train it is okay
