I will start with Iowa. I'm going to give Florida, and Michigan a regular primary on the democratic side.

January 3rd, 2008- Tonight is the Iowa primary which is the first primary election of the year, and very well may jump start a candidate to be the formal nominee of their party. We can now can now confirm the winner of both parties.

DEMOCRATS

Edwards 35.1% 20
Obama 34.8% 20
Clinton 27.6% 16
Biden 1.2% 1
Richardson 1.1% 0
Dodd 0.1% 0
Kucinich 0.1%

It looks like former North Carolina Senator John Edwards has carried the Iowa caucuses, beating out  the origanally projected winner Barack Obama, and Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton for the hotspot. If Edwards can pull through in South Carolina, with Obama and Clinton splitting New Hampshire, and Nevada, that very well may lead him to the nomination.

REPUBLICANS

Huckabee 36.7%
15
Romney 26.1% 10
Thompson 11.7% 5
Paul 10.1% 4
McCain 9.9% 4
Giuliani 5.4% 2
Hunter 0.1% 0

On the Republican side Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has made a big win against closest competitor Mitt Romney. This is a huge victory for the Huckabee campaign who had been polling below five percent for much of early 2007. On the other hand early frontrunners John McCain, and Rudy Giuliani have completely fallen apart tonight. The next contest in New Hampshire looks to be very interesting for the Republicans.

The Associated Press can now confirm that Duncan Hunter will be dropping out of the race formally later tonight.
