In round 41, you may vote one full vote for one leader, or two half votes for two leaders.

The fortieth round has completed, with two eliminated leaders:

Group A

Rafael Correa, Ecuador: 13 votes
------------------
Nikola Gruevski, Macedonia: 2 votes
Lee Myung-Bak, Korea, South: 1 vote
Lars Lokke Rasmussen, Denmark: 1 vote
Jose Socrates, Portugal: 1 vote
Baldwin Spencer, Antigua and Barbuda: 1 vote

Group B

Brian Cowen, Ireland: 8 votes
-------------------------
Dmitris Cristofias, Cyprus: 3 votes
Valdas Adamkus, Lithuania: 1 vote
Angela Merkel, Germany: 1 vote

There is a mistake in your count: Socrates had 2 votes.

You're right; i've fixed it now. I normally double check, but because it was a blowout I didn't bother. Thanks for catching the slip-up!

Sorry guys, what was meant to be an exceptionally short round became an exceptionally long one due to real-life circumstances. I'll fix it all up now.

I broke a tie, favouring Malta. There are more Maltese people living in Australia than in Malta, fwiw.

Also, don't do a search for "Jan Fischer" on google with safe search turned off. Crazy czech internet activists Smiley

Well.

What a round. I've unexpectedly been without computer access for a couple of days, and this is what I come back to Cheesy

I want to make three things clear:

1. What happened was completely within the rules;
2. What happened could have been reciprocated;
3. What happened was probably immoral.

I'm not going to take any action,. but I will suggest that this has been the first round in a long time in which both groups have had over 20 votes, and that is a good thing. At the same time, many of those votes were the equivalent of cook county corpses, and that isn't.

I'd like to see these 'call-ins' vote more often - not because they're particularly good voters, but becausae if they actually hang around they might not be as hackish. Someone getting a PM and thinking, "There's a leftist Latin American still in? Well, damn. OK, I'll vote them out" is not how a vote should be decided.

I encourage those who voted for the first time this round, or maybe got called in for Lula, or Morales, or whoever else, to get more involved over the long term. I also remind the left of the early departures of Harper, Sarkozy, Calderon, Berlusconi...

That Obama was voted out this early is probably more than a little ridiculous. Quite possibly hackish. If I were to vote, it wouldn't have been against Obama.

At the same time, in the original survivor, I lead and suceeded in a push to remove GWBush very, very early in the game, and that was probably ridiculous and hackish also.

What goes around comes around, and the game will continue - and will still be fun.

Round 49 will be the final round of stage two, before we enter the finals series. It is also my last chance to make you all go 'Huh?', and I'm taking it with both hands.

In this round, you will have two votes: 1 to save, the other to eliminate.

For example, you might vote in Group A:

Save: Vasquez
Eliminate: Barrow

...or whatever.

If there are three other voters, and they vote this way:

Save: Stoltenberg
Eliminate: Vasquez

Save: Vasquez
Eliminate: Barrow

Save: Vasquez
Eliminate: Faymann

The final tally would be

Barrow: 2
Faymann: 1

The Finalists

Australia - Kevin Rudd

Australia's 26th Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd was elected as Leader of the Labor Party in December 2006 before a strong election win against the ruling Coalition government in November 2007. Since taking office, he has maintained high approval ratings, and has worked to improve homelessness and indigenous disequality, as well as aiming for better relations with Aisan countries. A Sinophile, Rudd has been criticised for his handling of the economic crisis by the opposition, as well as potential corruption in the 'utegate' scandal. Environmentalists have also been disappointed by the limited nature of the government's environmental reforms, but were pleased when Australia ratified the Kyoto agreement immediately upon Rudd's election; and many leftists are disappointed by his perosnal refusal to consider same-sex marriage in Australia. Despite these areas of concern, his popular numbers remain high, and his government is widely expected to be re-elected at the next election.

Belize - Dean Barrow

Dean Barrow, the 4th Belizean Prime Minister, was elected in February 2008 after his United Democratic Party had been in opposition for nine and a half years. Throughout this time, he was the leader of the opposition. Most famous for being the father of rapper Jamal "Shyne" Barrow, currently in gaol in New York state for murder, he is also the first black PM of the country and has plans to implement a strong reformist agenda. A senior lawyer by trade, Barrow still often fronts courts for important cases for his firm, Barrow and Williams.

Costa Rica - Oscar Arias

1987 Nobel Peace Prize winner and Costa Rican President since 2006, Oscar Arias also served as President 1986-1990. As leader of the leftist National Liberation Party, Arias successfully challenged the constitution to allow him to serve a second term. An internationalist, Arias serves on the board of the International Criminal Court's Trust Fund for Victims. Criticised and applauded for his approach to Latin American unity, Arias is currently seen as a potential dealbroker in the Honduran coup crisis.

Denmark - Lars Lokke Rasmussen

Ascending to the Prime Ministership of Denmark following the resignation of longtime leader Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Rasmussen (no relation) took office and the leadership of the center-right liberal Venstre party in April 2009. As Finance Minister before ascension, he led a push to make Banks accountable for stabilisation money received in response to the credit crisis. Moderately popular, he is yet to be genuinely tested in the role.

Real life concerns are keeping me exceptionally busy atm., so the hours will be irregular for the next few rounds.

Also, I broke a tie, kicking out Rudd. I'd much rather've kicked out at least two of the 1-vote getters, because neither Rudd nor Merkel should be kicked out yet in my opinion.

I chose to get rid of Rudd because he's a slimy linguist. Not his policies or actions, his responses or accusations, but he abuses language. Silly I know - but not as silly as having to chose between him and Merkel.
