Initiative 26 would define the term “person” to include every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning, or the equivalent thereof. If the election was today, would you vote yes or no on Initiative 26?

Yes- 45%
No- 44%
Unsure- 11%

However, Tom says the good news for opponents of 26 is that the undecideds are more likely to break against the amendment. "11% of voters are undecided and their demographics are 58% women, 54% Democratic, and 42% black- those still on the fence disproportionately belong to voter groups that oppose the amendment. That suggests when those folks make up their minds the proposal could be narrowly defeated."

Other statewide offices:

AG
Jim Hood (D)- 52%
Steve Simpson (R)- 39%

Treasurer
Lynn Fitch (R)- 54%
Connie Moran (D)- 35%

If it can't pass in Mississippi, it can't pass anywhere.

Utah and Alabama would be the only hope if it fails here, but they can use the Mississippians for Healthy Families blueprint to hopefully defeat it there too.

Quite honestly, I was expecting a Lean Win for 26.

Well, I'm glad we'll at least have a close race to watch!

You pray that 11-year-old victims of rape and incest be forced to carry any resulting pregnancy, regardless of the health consequences?  You pray that women with cancer be denied life-saving treatment if they happen to have a fertilized egg inside them?

This isn't an abortion ban, it's a misunderstanding of science and a twisting of Christianity (actually, all denominations are against it except Southern Baptists) to put the government at the forefront of women's decision-making.

There are better options than abortion. Ever heard of adoption? I'm still deliberating regarding to save the life of the mother.

It suprises me that the Southern Baptists stood alone on this one.

Jill Filipovic has a funny essay about this proposition:

Could this level of Government expansion into the lives of its citizens be "red socialism for rednecks?"
