The open primary map:

Statewide results:

Edwards - 34%
Duke - 32%
Roemer - 27%
Other - 8%

And the general election map

Edwards - 61%
Duke - 39%

hmm.. there's probably some lessons to be learned from looking at the map

My grandfather was born in Union Parish, Louisiana in Marion (where most of his family was from).

They were very strong New Deal Democrats (my grandfather was too up till his passing a couple of years ago) and didn't like blacks at all.

I don't think they still do.

Of course, it helped Duke's case a certain amount that Edwards was a convicted criminal.

Here's something to do: compare these maps to the 2003 election...

Red is Blanco, Blue is Jindal.

Yes, we see some definite racism here...parishes that voted for Duke but then voted for Blanco...hmm....the fact that Jindal was of Indian descent may have been a factor, seeing as how Jindal did much better than Duke statewide.

I reckon that if the Democrats had run a man, they'd have cracked 60% statewide...

The 1995 Open Primary map is more fun.

Cleo Fields (D) - Blue
Mike Foster (R) - Red
Mary Landrieu (D) - Green
Buddy Roemer (R) - Yellow
Phil Preis - Orange
