I should remember the details, but on the state Supreme Court ruling, there was apparently some 1860s state law banning non compete agreements and some right wing business organization tried to get the law repealed arguing that it was too old. I don't know if anybody knows more about this.

The history of non compete agreements is actually kind of fascinating.
