vote among whites who are not evangelical:



Penn. and N.J. inconclusive - both had McCain narrowly winning whites, but the exit polls did not specify evangelicals (even with few evangelicals, their GOP support was likely enough for Obama to have carried white non-evangelicals in both states).

Much attention is paid to the fact that Dems could not be competitive on the national level without heavy minority support, but once evangelicals are removed, Obama didn't do so badly among whites.
