They have been vetting Vilsack, Edwards, Clark, and Gephardt the most I believe.

I would say Gephardt.  Though I like Edwards, and think the Democrats could have won with Edwards as their Candidate, Gephardt fits better with Kerry's theme.  It's a dangerous move though, since Gephardt has a lot of baggage with him, and may not necessarily deliver a state.  They would have to campaign on "experience" than anything else.

Well either Gephardt or Edwards would help shore up Kerry's protectionist credentials, but Edwards personally fits better with Kerry to balance out young and old, whereas Gephardt just comes from a very strategic areas. One thing though, is hopefully whomever the VP is does not constantly point his or her finger or lift his or her hand during debates and speeches. When Kerry does that it is like he is lecturing and is seriously unattractive. I know he knows more about the issues than me but would like to see his face unhindered by his hands.

I think what you're trying to say is: "Kerry and his Pointing Finger...ain't gonna wear well with the American people!"

Where have I heard that one before? Smiley

I'm hoping Gephart.  Then I'd have a reason to bother to vote.

I don't buy the story that it's down to two, but of those two, I think that Kerry should pick Edwards.  Gephardt is one of those rare breeds that causes his stock price to go down when he interacts with other human life forms.

Witness the 2004 Iowa Caucus, the state with the highest blue-collar manufacturing labor contingent in the union (or very close to it), a complex and low-turnout caucus system that favors experience and connections (which Geps had tons of), a neighbor to Gep's MO, and one where he was victorious in his presidential run of 1988 and strongly favored due to near-unanimous union support.

Several months later, after voters got to meet the candidates: Geps in distant fourth place.

Frankly, I don't understand this infatuation with former primary rivals, and don't think that Kerry needs to stoop to kiss Edwards' ass by nominating that snake-oil salesman.  But having said that, I'll at least give Edwards some credit where it is due: man, does he know how to work a crowd and look sharp for the cameras.

Someone please explain the Vilsack fetish to me if you get the chance.

What about Graham, Warner, Nelson, Bayh - some of those could be interesting, couldn't they?

Gep. I'd advise choosing neither, though.

On all of those, save Graham, I'd agree with you. My top choices would be...

Edwards
Warner
Bayh
Lincoln
Landrieu
Nelson
Richardson

According to politics1.com the field has narrowed down to Vilsack and Gephardt, with Kansas governor Kathleen Sebelius the outside bet.

I still think Kerry would be mad not to choose Edwards, but there you go.

Politics 1 (which i have a very high regard for) was quoting an MSNBC story, that Kerry dismissed... not necessarily to be dismissed but I wouldn't take it as gospel, well at least I hope its not true!

Wow! both Vilsack and Gephardt would be the charismatic ones on the ticket Cheesy thats not even funny!

That said while I think he would be a bad choice as VP as a politician I like and respect Gephardt even though I don't agree with him all the time, but Sebelius would be a disaster (the only good choices for a female VP would be Blanche Lincoln or perhaps Mary Landrieu IMHO).

But overall Edwards, Warner, Bayh, Nelson and Lincoln would be the best choices for Kerry’s VP, but they (expect for Edwards) didn’t seem to be getting a “look-in” ah well…:(
