A federal or state ban on all private gun ownership would be unconstitutional.

But mandatory gun locks wouldn't be unconstitutional.

Wrong. The second amendment is about instant militias and is irrelevant today. There are no legitimate reasons for priavte persons to have guns.

What's this I hear?

A Republican supporting a ban on guns, now that the Republicans are firmly in power? Even though the Republicans were always whining about their guns getting taken away back when we had a Democrat in the White House.

It just goes to show that Republicans think gun rights are for themselves only.

Is that true if any one type of gun was banned, eg shotguns?

They can ban or limit certain types of guns without violating the Constitution. They can't ban all guns.

I said I wanted them for only "military and security forces".

Now that is scary. Really.

It sounds more like something you'd hear in a dictatorship than in a modern democratic republic.

Most other democracies aren't as established as America is. America had the longest-running democracy in the world.

The purpose of the second ammendment wa to allow the public to defend themslves from the government/military in case it ever became too dictatorial.

It's fair to say that the government has become too dictatorial.

I was told that in Britain, France, and Germany, it is possible for private citizens to legally acquire guns. From what I'm told, it's pretty hard to do, but it does happen.

You want a country where it's almost impossible to acquire a gun? Try Singapore. Yes, the same Singapore whose government conservatives are always defending.

How would you make sure that everyone is insured?

Who cares if drivers are insured?

Car insurance is a big scam. I wouldn't shed a tear if it went away for good.

I'd support Second Amendment repeal, rather than trying to devise a complex piece of legislation to regulate gun use.

The Second Amendment means what it says. I'd never support its repeal.

When it says "well-regulated" that does permit some restrictions. The Second Amendment doesn't give people the right to go out and shoot each other's heads off for no reason.

Are laws against private ownership of nuclear weapons, hand grenades, tanks, etc. unconstutitional?

No, because of the idea of "well-regulated".

Also, does would the prospect of living in England "scare the hell out of you"?  They don't have any constitutional rights at all, and yet they are in many ways more free!

These days, that's true.

It's odd that in many parts of America you can't legally buy fireworks to celebrate July 4, a holiday that is supposed to be about freedom. Yet I have e-mail friends in Britain - the country that America broke away from - who have no trouble at all buying fireworks.

In other words, we no longer have the freedom to celebrate our freedom from a country that now has more freedom than we do. Strange.

America is not as free as it was 25 years ago.

1. The law isn't really enforced. Sale is restricted, but most people just go to Tennessee, Alabama, or Florida to buy them. The police really don't care about fireworks as long as you use them only on the 4th and New Years.

Kentucky used to be like this. Yeah, it was illegal, but nobody cared. A few years ago, however, they started throwing people in JAIL.

Economic is -10.00.

Social is -9.83.

This is as close as you can get to a perfect score. The reason social isn't a perfect -10 is that large corporations will support a liberal cause 1/60th of the time.
