I'm not a fan, but, well, just after Indira, he appeared to be "not too bad"...
And Desai isn't the only one: Rajiv was also a big disappointment, if you remember the hope before he reached power.

A fine and contested round.
I applied the same rule as in my 20th Century History Makers Survivor: when there is a tie, the leader who gathered the biggest total of votes is eliminated.
Lewis will be pleased Wink.

Anyway, I keep on voting for

Deve Gowda.

Quite hard to choose between Rajiv and VP Singh.

He was very disappointing, not going far and quickly enough in reforms.
He acted at a Rao's pace or at a Manmohan's pace, BUT he was able to do far better than that...
And he had a heavy-handed policy in the sub-continent.

But I voted anyway for VP Singh ! Wink

Well, well, well, I'm ready to vote for Rajiv, but it's because I don't think Nehru would be ousted so early... And I must acknowledge it's difficult not to take into account the fact that, "mostly", India was peaceful after the independence (I mean, it could have been really nasty). So, again, I'm hesitating.

I guess there is always something personal in those survivors... So...

Rajiv Gandhi !

Rajiv Gandhi

To Xahar:
I was a trainee at the French embassy and so was a bit forced to stay in Delhi, but I went around in the triangle Delhi-Agra-Jaipur and I visited Varanasi and stopped a bit in Lucknow.
No Kolkata,no Mumbai, no Madras, no Pondicherry (Wink) and no South...
I came back with the certainty that India will take a long, long, long time to escape from castes and feudal system, from a sort of conservatism and from a big and entrenched fatalism...
To say it in a nutshell, of course (and I have no time tonight to write more).
But I came back a little... changed. You see many things from a different viewpoint after having lived a bit in India (6 months in 1994). Relativity...
In 1997, I went to Delhi for 2 weeks, to take part in the wedding of a friend of mine (a Franco-Vietnamese, employed at the embassy).
