I wonder why you're holding a primary at all - doesn't the election system make that bloody unnecessary?

We have two wanting to be the UAC Candidate. We cannot field two candidates, it just doesn't happen so we are choosing one by a primary.
Why can't you have two candidates? I guess it might not look good, but there's no technical or legal problem.
