Odds are I would never had begun to question Christianity (and from there all the other assumptions I had taken as give in my life) if I weren't a queer. So in a sense I am somewhat thankful for the homophobia latent in Christianity in general, and southern Protestantism in particlar. I feel that I would not he as inquisitive and material focused had it not been for being outright shunned from the organization and creed that was supposed to provide an over arching worldview and explanation for everything.
