August 27th, 1993: A car bomb in Afghanistan kills 47 people. Although the Taliban has been scattered, most of its leaders have not been found. The “Coalition of the Willing” is working with Burhanuddin Rabbani in creating a new, more democratic government.
September 19th, 1993: More dismal economic news is out, the deficit is not changing and President Bush is taking some heat for it. He promises that they will find a way to curb the deficit and create jobs. Democrats are pushing for a large number of infrastructure projects and more government spending. Republicans argue that that will only increase the size of the deficit.
October 5th, 1993: In Afghanistan, Taliban leader Mohammed Omar barely evades capture by a Russian force. His escape is met with disappointment across the world.
October 17th, 1993: Who do you support for the Democratic nomination in 1996?

The first poll for the democratic nomination for president in 1996 is released, showing New York Governor Mario Cuomo at the head of the pack, followed by former VP nominee Al Gore. Although polls this early usually mean nothing, it is good to see America’s opinion.
November 2nd, 1993: Strengthened by poor economic news, Mary Sue Terry is elected Governor of Virginia, defeating republican George Allen. James Florio was easily re-elected Governor of New Jersey, defeating Christine Todd Whitman. David Dinkins, buoyed by his sharp response to 2/23, defeats Rudy Giuliani to win re-election as Mayor of New York City

And BTW, the Taliban in my timeline persuaded a lot of the military to assist them in "repelling the invaders" that is why they held Kabul. Osama Bin Laden was in the Sudan, but fled to the mountains in Afghanistan. If you don't like my timeline, you don't have to read it.
