When one wakes up in OSR's hotel, it'll be morning again in America.

Is this a joke about stereotypical jobs held by working class diaspora Indians?

The joke would have been more accurate had they focused on stereotypical middle class Indians - like the one whose family I know about out of these two.

I’d wager that the richest person I know in my school comes from a Gujurati family who owns a business like or the ones mentioned. Even if you start poor you won’t stay poor for long.

I wouldn't want to patronize a gas station that requires you to undergo six hours of safety training before allowing you to pump your own gas.

Well, it is in New Jersey. Pumping your own gas is the only thing that isn't legal in New Jersey.

Oregon repealed that law but now activists are trying to put a measure on the ballot that would restore that law

Oregonians be like "I'm not allowed to pump my own gas! I'm not allowed!" Lucky for you, you're a hotelier in this scenario, so you don't have to worry about such things.

To Oregon and New Jersey posters...why?!  That law doesn't make any sense, could easily cause delays, and probably (?) results in another stupid tipping situation.

It's the same Luddite attitude that's driving the movement to ban self-driving trucks.

It did make sense when it was implemented. Gas was complicated and dangerous to dispense in the early days of cars. Vapor control technology was not a thing, for example. I don't see that it causes delays and tips are optional.
As for why it sustains, it represents hundreds of jobs - if you can legislate to keep those people in work, it's an easy legislative win. If I drove I wouldn't mind having the gas pumped instead of having to do it myself. I'm paying for the f**ing gas, how about a little service? It's like self-checkout at grocery stores - why should I be doing half the work as a customer so you can lay everyone off?

I wonder what the room service is like at OSR hotel. Is it just OSR cooking, or is there staff in both of these hypothetical establishments?

Yeah I know a Punjabi who's family franchises but there are way more Gujuratis where I live than Punjabis and so there are more Gujurati businesses than Punjabi businesses.

Nope, we don’t tip at gas stations.

It’s nice not having to get out of the car.

I honestly didn’t even know that pumping your own gas was a thing until I was like 12.

Why should I pay more so some guy can fill up my gas?
