Who knows, too far away

I'm expecting a Toomey/Matthews race

Nobody wins in that situation.

Wow, how I'd love that.

I'd love that but Matthews is unlikely to win that primary. Toomey vs. Schwartz.

If I were a Pennsylvanian, I'd vote for Santorum.  If y'all think Franken is a joke, just wait until Matthews gets five minutes on C-SPAN.

Chris Matthews is far closer to the mainstream of PA politics than Santy Clause.  If 2010 is an awful year for Democrats, like 1994, then Santorum would win.  Otherwise, no.

In the terms of Matthews vs. Specter, this race intrigues me.  Lean Specter of course, but Matthews is an effective speaker and has good connections.  I would support his candidacy.

He's also a nutcase.

Santorum?  I think everyone on the forum can agree to that!

I'm no Matthews fan either, BUT I'd support him over Santorum obviously.

That said I think it will be Schwartz vs. Toomey.  As for this race, we'll just see how the Dems do the next 2 years.  In a 1994 type scenario, I could see a Toomey win.  Again, it's too far out.

Could see? Dude, if we're talking another 1994, Schwartz doesn't stand a chance.

My guess is, now, is Santorum would actually win if Specter would retire in 2010.

I think Santorum won't win unless we see another 1994/2002 style year for the GOP.

Its really going to depend upon how the Dems do these next two years.

Personally, I can't stand Chris Matthews. I would vote Santorum in that election.

Once again, I'm a baaaaaad Democrat.

I won't comment on who'd win in a gimmick of an election such as the one suggested. Even if it were to happen, it would be so surreal that I wouldn't believe either of those two would win until the ballots are actually counted and the electorate didn't wise up and write in a candidate across the board.

One thing to point out about Santorum, who is actually the more serious threat of appearing on the ballot: He was 1 of only 3 senators in 2006 to have a consistent negative approval rating(others were Dewine-OH and Burns-MT...all 3 of whom lost reelection.) I have to think that he is so polarizing to Pennsylvanians that if any breathing candidate the Democratic party over there threw at him would win easily.
