Creationism, Minus a Young Earth, Emerges in the Islamic World
By KENNETH CHANG
Published: November 2, 2009
AMHERST, Mass. — Creationism is growing in the Muslim world, from Turkey to Pakistan to Indonesia, international academics said last month as they gathered here to discuss the topic.
But, they said, young-Earth creationists, who believe God created the universe, Earth and life just a few thousand years ago, are rare, if not nonexistent.
One reason is that although the Koran, the holy text of Islam, says the universe was created in six days, the next line adds that a day, in this instance, is metaphorical: “a thousand years of your reckoning.”
By contrast, some Christian creationists find in the Bible a strict chronology that requires a 6,000-year-old Earth and thus object not only to evolution but also to much of modern geology and cosmology, which say the Earth and the universe are billions of years old.
“Views of scientific evolution are clearly influenced by underlying religious beliefs,” said Salman Hameed, who convened the two-day conference here at Hampshire College, where he is a professor of integrated science and humanities. “There is no young-Earth creationism.”
But that does not mean that all of evolution fits Islam or that all Muslims happily accept the findings of modern biology. More and more seem to be joining the ranks of the so-called old-Earth creationists. They do not quarrel with astronomers and geologists, just biologists, insisting that life is the creation of God, not the happenstance consequence of random occurrences.
The debate over evolution is only now gaining prominence in many Islamic countries as education improves and more students are exposed to the ideas of modern biology.
The degree of acceptance of evolution varies among Islamic countries.

Horrible trash just like the other brands of creationists. Of course fundamentalist Christians have a lot more in common with fundamentalist Muslims than they'd admit.

Stupid. I tell you, if the American South magically found itself transported to, say, Pakistan, it would get on much better than it does connected as it is to Freedomland.

I'm assuming these are the same guys that claim that the theory of relatively is predicted by the Koran... among other things.
Profoundly unsurprisingly this tbh.

Most of people I heard speaking about that agreed on the fact that Muslim creationism has been strongly pushed by the growing of evangelicals around the world, till this modern era Islam hadn't creationist tradition.
Oh and, enjoy:

I'm sure Osama bin Ladin will be happy to hear that we only intend to pray for him when he's finally caught.
And you apperently fell asleep during History class, or you'd know that Christians have commited a lot of violance, and still do, in the name of God and killed quite a huge amount of people for not having the right faith.

They were not true christians. They were dark ages papists. that has changed as people have become Bible beleiving christians and now even many catholics are bible Beleiving christians. not like the pre refromation ages.

Islam is
inherently
creationist. Its the most purely monotheistic religion there is; the totality of actuality is ascribed to God. That's why its so fatalistic.

All monotheist religions are inherently creationist. Islam didn't practice what we could call 'modern creationism" before having been competed by evangelicals around the world according to what I heard several times. By modern creationism i would refer to the fact to justify all what is written in holy texts by modern sciences, the link i've posted, harunyayah, is a good example of that.
Islam uses to encourage "knowledge" in its fundamental basics as a priority for the Muslim, but then, it just says that some things are beyond the mind of humans, some things that have been revealed to Mohamed in the cave, in short there is only one "god" and you can't imagine how it is, and it is responsible of all the creation, Islam creationism didn't go further it seems to me, as far as I know it hasn't known some crisis like we knew in West between discoveries of science and holy texts. And it didn't tried to justify texts by modern science like evangelicals do, at least not until recently...

He's stupid. The facts are, some people in both group take it to a crazy state. I had Muslim friends, when I was working, and they were some of the nicest people I have met. Of course, I don't agree with them on many thing, but they were nice. Both religions teach peace and love toward all, but some twist the words around to use it for their own gains.
