A few things:

a) William H. Murray was the ninth governor of Oklahoma
b) "Alfalfa Bill", unless you're an authoritarian, was not by any means great.  Hell, he liked him some martial law and (gasp) fascism (literally).

Wow, it's kind of amazing reading about sane politicians elected to the Senate from states that are totally insane now, like this guy, Frank Church of Idaho, and Ralph Yarborough of Texas.
