Remember how everyone was so confident that the Dems would pick up NH, MO, and OH right after the 2008 election? Anyone see something similar happening now?

If those states were in an election year like this one, the Dems would of probably if they had anyone but Lee Fisher run carried at least OH though, Ayotte was a mainstreamc conservative and it already had a female senator. MT, NEB, ND and even MO are in lean GOP states in presidential years I see those state going GOP while OH, VA, and MA are pure tossups.

It will be a close race, Tester is a good fit for the state and has what it takes to hold his own.
I don't see how someone who sides with Harry Reid and Barack Obama over 90% of the time on Senate votes is a good fit for a state as conservative as Montana. Perhaps he's a good fit for the Montana Democratic Party, but not for the state as a whole.

Montana is a conservative state?

Agreed. I like our chances but it's not a sure thing right now.

Apprantly, Steve Daines, the second-tier Republican who was going to challenge Tester, is now running for Rehberg's House seat. Schweitzer could probably beat Daines though.

Zero?  Why would he want to go from being a governor to a congressman?  If anything he'd run for the Senate seat.

You could ask Mike Castle and Bill Janklow the same question. It isn't a crazy idea for those representing states with a small population.

Yes, but unlike Castle or Janklow, he appears to be running for President in 2016.

It has been a rumor but how does it "appear" that he's running? Has he even commented on it?

Schweitzer could go for congressman and in 2014 for Senate when Baucus retires.

He doesn't need to stop by the House if he wants to run for Senate. No more than he needs to if he wants to run for President.

but if he doesn't run for something, people in 2016 will say... oh, we have a great bench, but let's vote for the guy who was governor from that small, rural state some years ago!!
If he runs for the house seat, he'll win, and then he can say "I've got 8 years of experience as governor and 4 as congressperson, I fit the presidency".

An open Senate seat in 2012 will be ideal.

Expect conspiracy theories should anything untoward happen to Tester. Grin

Rehberg is one of the most conservative members of congress.  I'm surprised that Ajc/Red/Tmth aren't falling over each other to proclaim what an awful "teabagger" he is.

And let's not get into the fact that he's a member of the Tea Party Caucus. You know, the one Michele Bachmann started.

You mean the same Michelle Bachmann speaking at the very event Rehberg's going to announce at? Yep, that's her. I'm sure they hardly know one another though. Roll Eyes
