I went to the Barnes & Noble Friday night and noticed an old man (about 70 or so) look up from his American Spectator and pick up TIME, wave his nose an inch from the cover for about a minute or two, open it up for a minute or two, then put it back. The next day I went back there, and noticed that all the TIME's were sold out. Usually they'll be languishing there all week.

I have been ehm... attempting to avoid this entire controversy. It is clear that TIME is profiting massively from the attention, and I really don't want to say anything. In fact this post is the first time I've commented on it anywhere.

The main thing generating controversy is the age of the kid.  If it were an infant being breastfed, the cover would be generating at most a tenth of the comments that it has.

I mean really, the woman's breasts aren't impressive at all.  And she isn't really that hot at all.  Which I guess is what happens when you breast feed a f***in' 4th grader every day of the week.

And let's pretend I had the scary taste for skinny as sh*t 30 something mothers who look like Greek refugees like a number of you guys have I surely wouldn't want to eat breast all day.  I'd be paying all of my money for repeat jaw surgeries caused by stress on the jaw from mouthing a boob all day.

I would prefer a better job, like being a male gigolo.  I'd rather get paid for getting laid than get paid for sucking on a tit.  But hey, that's just me.

And you are so sure about your opinion on what age is too old to breastfeed how?  I mean,  I think it's probably better not to at that age, but to call her a failure for doing so is ridiculous.

That's the entire point of the cover's symbolism. Note, "why attachment parenting drives some mothers to extremes"...

Here's something to think about. If instead of using her 4 year old biological son, they had her 5 year old adopted black son, what would the comments be like?
