1946 House Election Map (with AK and HI delegates):



Things I found noteworthy:

A candidate from the American Labor Party won one seat in Manhattan (Upper East Side, it appears). A number of other ALP candidates won 15%-30% in north Manhattan and especially the Bronx. A deposed Dem senator tried to Murkowski his way to reelection in Milwaukee, but failed (the 30%R district). The Republicans managed to flip every seat in Philadelphia, but the Dems gained a couple seats in Massachusetts and the Iron Range seat in MN.

Oh, and the one Dem in Washington is Scoop Jackson. I thought that was cool.

1946 and 1948 don't look all that different, actually.  Certainly not 75 seats different.  Personally I'd find it more interesting if the maps showed gained/held instead of %.

When the heck did wikipedia add those results on the older elections? Last I knew, it was just CA and few others that had results in included for elections like 46.

The 1946 map is just bizarre.

In what way? Compared to now it certainly does. But for the time, the distribution of the results seems to be in line with GOP victories in the 1920's, with a few exceptions like Rhode Island.

A lot of these aren't surprising (gerrymandering, concentration of performance, etc.), but I was surprised by Ohio 1976.

I found some data for 1964 congressional districts, but it's very incomple.  There's hardly anything regarding the city CDs.  My search continues.

These 1952-1960 maps are gorgeous!  Made me "un-lurk" for the first time in ages!  I'd like to know where the raw data came from?

For all elections from 1920 onward. It's the congressional boundaries that are a challenge to find.

The 1994 map isn't quite as striking as you might think on first glance, but you can tell by looking at a few things that the Republicans definitely won. The South still looks fairly even (which, of course, was way down from what the Dems had previously), but I think that's mostly because of the big rural districts being won by the Democrats. Combine that with the lack of a strong Democratic base in New England or the West Coast (like we see today) and the Republicans doing pretty well in the Rust Belt, and you can see their majority.
