Well done to Shamrock Rovers, with the help of a fantastic volley the other night they're first Irish club side to make the group stage of a European competition.
That seems to be Celtic Glasgow. Going by the jerseys. Grin

Who might make it in via the green table, btw. Sion who beat them (and thus eliminated Scotland from group stages entirely Shocked while Ireland get a club in Shocked ) seem to have used a player they weren't allowed to use.

I had a long rant about the state of Scottish football that I wrote up and lost because it timed out. Celtic and Rangers both get knocked out by the powerhouse clubs of Sion and Maribor. Gross. It wasnt so long ago that Celtic was playing competitive football in the group stages of the Champions League. Celtic and Rangers both recently played in the European cup finals. The league has just dropped so far in talent. In short, I miss Martin O'Neill and Henrik Larsson.

P.s. Celtic doesnt deserve to get in on a technicality.

When did the current dire state of Scottish football start anyway? Like most people south of the border I only phase in and out occasionally; like Patrick wrote it's not that long ago that things were quite different.

Anderlecht seems to be in for a rough ride, though Brugge and Standard should be able to do something. (Relatively speaking of course, Anderlecht definitely got one of the tougher groups for a team from pot 1)

Judging by UEFA league co-efficients, about 5 years ago.

Presuming Celtic aren't put into the CL group stage, the SPL will collapse from being the 17th ranked league in Europe (around the likes of Austria, Cyprus, Israel and the Czechs) to around 30th (between the likes of Georgia, Finland, Bosnia and Ireland) at season end.

Manchester versus North London tomorrow. Hopefully the forces of good triumph over the forces of evil (though that's unlikely).

Bit difficult, as they do not take part in the game.

We drew away at Swansea. Meh, not a great result, but I kind of want Swansea to do alright, so, eh...

Stretford v Islington kicks off in a few minutes.

Haha, wow. It's not often you see one of the gargantuan clubs get picked apart so brutally.

Arsenal are now 17th in the league. Alright, that doesn't matter at all this early in the season. Still. lol.

Anyways, will Wenger soon be getting a vote of confidence from the board?

West Ham won 4-1 today against Nottingham Forest. Can't remember the last time we won three away games on the trot.

Huh, well that is a good thing for the balance sheet.  Can't say I'm very confident of how things will go on the pitch.

So apparently a certain MLS team that represents my city came back from being down three goals. A friend of mine just described it as the "most epic comeback in Soccer." Oh, these silly American Soccer fans.

The sad part is that this kid actually knows about real Soccer leagues/tournaments and still had the audacity to say that.

Fun fact: a friend of mine is dragging me to this team's game this Saturday. I can't believe I actually agreed to go. Of course, he is paying.

Yeah well, the second to last time I watched friends of mine play (this sunday. The last time was the A teams' game right afterwards), they lost 4-5 after being up 2-0 and 4-2.
