How long until a candidate's religious views...

How long until a candidate's religious views can be attacked, no matter how mainline he is?
It's inspiring seeing America, where normally only hatred for Atheism and Islam is permitted in mainstream political discourse, truly digging into a lilly-white man's religion, even one as home-grown as Mormonism.
It's truly great seeing the idiocy of believing in some crazy stories told by some nut thrust into the open. The strange rituals and unfathomable beliefs laid bare for all to mock really heartens me. I never thought I'd hear it, but people are finally saying it out in the open:
Who made this stuff up? They really believe this?
I look forward to the day that Evangelicals, Baptists, and every other religious person can look forward to the same ridicule over their crazy baseless superstitions.

Israel and the United States "killing dozens of civilians with explosives", as you phrase it, has, throughout history, almost always been a good thing.

I look forward to a day when people stop caring about the religion of a candidate. Those who complain about about muslims and atheists being hated on in the political discourse ( I am with you here), you will be no better than the haters if you start holding a christian candidate's religion against them

A candidate's religious views are an important part of understanding who they are and what their values are. Their importance isn't going away any time soon.

I second this.
And you just know who most of the usual suspects are out there on the left who are all over Romney's religious beliefs. Mormonism is a type of Christianity, and it is far more mainstream than living an alternative lifestyle, so it would probably be prudent for those who fall into the latter category not to engage in bigotry against Mormons. I mean, do you see Barney Frank out there winning a bunch of primaries? And if he were, how would certain people feel if people started questioning his proclivities in a bigoted manner?

Then why do other churches not accept Mormon baptisms? Or vice-versa, if I were to convert to Mormonism for some inexplicable reason I would have to be baptized again, despite the fact that I'll soon be baptized twice (as a baby and in two weeks.) Gingrich didn't have to be rebaptized to convert to Catholicism. If I were to convert to any other church that baptizes babies it wouldn't require a rebaptism and after two weeks I could convert to any Christian church without being rebaptized. I don't even have to be rebaptized to belong to my current church, I'm just doing it because I want to. But not the case with Mormonism. Also if I were baptized a Mormon I'd have to be rebaptized to convert to any Christian church.

Jesus Christ is a prophet of Islam. Does that make Islam a type of Christianity? All main-stream Christian branches declare that Jesus was the last and final prophet. Mormonism violates that rule.

If a candidate came out declaring that all women are inferior to men and that Jerusalem should not be divided because of their faith (like Pat Robertson in 1988), it deserves scrutiny and critique. Would it be unfair to a member of the Westboro Church if their faith and parish were questioned? Religion gives many their code of ethics and morals.
I agree that Atheists and Muslims should not be outright hated by the political discourse; they are victims of extreme prejudice. But asking an atheist where he derived his ethics and morals (I derive mine from Humanist teachings) or a Muslim where he stands on certain "out there" portions of the Koran is fair game.

You misunderstand.
I think religious belief of any sort is nothing but silly superstitions. Old stories told so many times that unthinking people believe in them. Nonsense.
I don't hate religious people. I do think they're all either nuts or unthinking.
I don't think Mormonism or Christianity or Islam or Hinduism or any religion is particularly more or less terrible than any other.
They're all just crazy made-up stories.
And amazingly, some people are starting to catch onto this in our public discourse, which treats the ridiculousness of religion with kid gloves so as not to offend the masses.
It's encouraging.

Hatred, intolerance, and bigotry have no place in the America of 2012.

This is in the first pages of The Holy Bible:
Genesis 3:16
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply the sorry and the conception; in sorry thou shalt bring forth children ;
and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee
Anyone claiming women ought to be ruled over by men is simply preaching The Word.

Hatred, intolerance, and bigotry killed 6,000,000 Jews.
I shall now make sure that Romney is monitored any comments that fit into that bracket.

I moved this thread here because it definitely didn't belong on the 2012 board. I didn't realize your board was already half-full with threads about Mormonism. Sowwy

In this thread Jacobtm doesn't understand basic theological praxis.
Here's a hint: You can understand more about people and certain aspects of the world through stories, fictional or otherwise, than you can through non-story modes of knowledge.
