Someone brought up Michigan in the North Carolina thread, so lets look at Michigan. Carl Levin, the long time democratic senator will be up for reelection. The conventional wisdom is that he will retire rather than seek another term, but it might be up in the air. Seeing that the Michigan 2010 gubernatorial result was a big highlight for republicans, and especially if Obama is reelected, do republicans have a good chance of picking up this seat? Discuss

George Deukmjican will become to next President of the United States. You must read it to believe it.

"So, I leave you all tonight with a full heart and a fervent prayer that we will meet again and we will meet often in this land where miracles are always happening, where every day is a new beginning and every life a blessing from God.

So I want to say thanks to each one of you here. Thank y

Doubtful. Hoekstra might try again, Engler will be too old. Calley won't quit being LG. Maybe Dr. Dan. Amash is talented but a confirmed Ronulan, which renders him unelectable statewide in a Northern state.

Never thought I'd say this, but I'm praying for another black-yellow majority, and for the SPD to get shattered.  It's exactly what it deserves.

Not sure. Pubbies have a better bench in Michigan than the Crats, but it's still a bluish state.

Given Hoekstra's meltdown, should they just wait until Levin retires to pick up this seat?

I think so. Terri Lynn Land perhaps? MI could theoretically elect a Republican- Spence Abraham was fairly conservative- but they'd have to be very slick and moderate in tone, if not necessarily in substance. Hence why I think those 2 are best.

Spencer Abraham also had the good fortune to run in 1994.

The Democrats' only disadvantage is their bench sucks. Who have they got, Gary Peters?

Democratic bench starts with Granholm- but she left the Governorship in 2010 with high unfavorable. Then we get the former US House Members who left in 2010, Mark Schauer or Gary Peters.

I expect Levin to run again, but if he doesn't, I don't think Gary Peters would be a bad candidate.

Yeah Peters would probably be the Dem Candidate. I hear he is a pretty good fundraiser too. I have no idea who the Republican Nominee would be. Maybe Candice Miller but she is not moderate at all.

We know it won't be Hoekstra, not after his Yellow Peril self-nuking.

I think Hoekstra is still too conservative for MI even if the Super Bowl ad never happened. The Republicans need to recruit a Tommy Thompson or George Voinavich type of candidtate to win there.

Not with Snyder's antics. I expect either Governor Bernero or Governor Whitmer (the other may be in the open Senate seat) in 2015.
