Who is the most underrated president ever?
«
on:

I've taken a handful of presidents who were either important or made some important reforms, yet are either looked at unfavorably or ignored. I thought about putting Wilson, but he's overrated by historians and underrated by the Internet, so it balances out. Cleveland was on the shortlist, but he actually is ranked okay on most presidental rankings. Harding is somewhat underrated IMO (he did pardon Debs), but still sucked.

James K Polk. I mean, his presidency literally shaped modern America, AND shaped its culture. And he did it all in 4 years. Not bad for Young Hickory.

Out of the poll, I voted for my man JQA due to my personal bias towards the Adamses. I'd have to say Polk though. I don't recall him being on the poll but if he was, my mistake.

Many of the pre-Civil War Presidents, especially Van Buren and Tyler, as well as Warren Harding would be good candidates. Of that list, Grant or Hayes.

Also, Wormy, why would you like Hayes? If I recall correctly, he got super mad in his later years about the gap 'twixt the rich & poor and wanted a bill to limit inheritance to a certain amount and have the government take the rest and distribute it to whomever it pleased. I wouldn't think of you as the type to like him.

I'm more concerned about their actual acts as President than their philosophies.
