Part of the maturation process is learning how to effectively deal with this sort of thing, while retaining your sangfroid. It can be done. And this is an excellent forum really for gaining those skills. We have a lot of excellent role models I think. I really think most of our young people benefit from their time spent here, which is very gratifying to me.

A bit of clarification: I meant that he was informative on the polling board. There has never been enough in-depth analysis of the crosstabs of polls and that's definately something he brought more of. Outside of that sure he was a bit hackish but I can think of less then a dozen people here who aren't at times total hacks. And really, troll is thrown about with way too much frequency these days.

The Sharpest Contrast: Right vs Left, should be on althistory. Unfortunately, I think 1988 might be gone forever, and that was his magnum opus.

His poll analysis, while annoying, wasn't the reason people disliked him. It was his sore winner attitude on the Wisconsin Recall threads, debating style that consisted of poisoning the well, and inability to take criticism (whether it be on how polls work or a FF/HP thread).
