The following is a listing of active political parties that I have found with Presidential candidates in play.

Naturally we have the two dominant ones:
Democratic Party
Republican Party

Then we have the growing "third parties":
Constitution Party (According to Stateline.org article on 6/2/04, they are on 16 ballots, Ballot Access News says 17[/b])
Green Party (According to Stateline.org article on 6/2/04, they are on 16 ballots, Ballot Access News says 23[/b])
Libertarian Party (27 states - Ballot Access News[/b])
Populist Party (Nader's party, with Jan Pierce as VP.[/b])
Reform Party (According to Stateline.org article on 6/2/04, they are on 7 ballots[/b])

And then a handful of minor parties:
American Party
Peace and Freedom Party
Personal Choice Party (has a female porn star running as VP)
Prohibition Party (they're still around?)
Socialist Party USA
Socialist Equality Party
Socialist Workers Party (Union Yes?  hahaha)
Veterans Party (Trying to get Schwartzkopf as the Presidential candidate[/b])
Workers World Party

What I am interested in, is how many states are these parties on the ballots for November?  It would be interesting to identify which parties are truly serious about placing a person in the Presidential seat, and whom is just out to make a name for themselves or get their cause known.

I believe the Libertarians have ballot status in every state and DC. That's one I know off the top of my head.

You can keep up to date on ballot status for the parties at Ballot Access News (http://www.ballot-access.org).

The link might not work right now; I haven't been able to access the site for a few days, though.

The Libertarians do not yet have access in all the states, although they probably will by election day.  They are the only ones other than the Democrats and the Republicans to already be on enough ballots to have a chance to win the Presidency without sending it to the House.

Oklahoma is up in the air at this point.  In Ohio, there is a fallback from the lawsuit, which is being followed as insurance.  The past National Committee did not view ballot access as a key priority, but as something to be done if people gave money for the purpose, and there have been negative consequences.

Ballot Access News is back online.  Here's a link to the status of the various parties as of May 1:

The June 1 information will be up by the end of the month.  You can get it sooner if you subscribe.
