Not much change in 2 or so years. :-/

Economic score: +7.61
Social score: -6.09

Your score pegs you as economically extremely capitalist and socially libertarian.

Extreme capitalists generally believe that the free market should be unregulated andlaissez-faire in nature, with government either only intervening in extreme cases or never intervening at all. They also believe in significant reductions of government services. Many extreme capitalists believe that it is not the government's responsibility to assure welfare for the poor, but rather that the poor should fend for themselves or receive welfare through some form of private charity.

Social libertarians generally believe that the government should not judge morality, and are generally against the illegalization of things that do not directly affect other people in a negative way. Many strong social libertarians may also be social progressives, favoring legislation to correct what they see as socially backwards governmental regulation, although some simply wish for the government to make little judgment on social matters.

Worth noting that since this test was devised there has been a shift in what is now considered to be the centre ground (and what is considered left/right/authoritarian/permissive) so it will 'lag' a little. Could be worth an update.

Change from E +7.68 to E +6.32, and a social change from S +0.61 to S +1.04.

Took again.

Not much change. E is now +6.52. S is +1.13.

Not really; moderating is the logical effect of lack of critical issues to push it one way or the other and more non-answers.

My S score has decreased by about 5 points since I first took the test. In a few months, I might turn into Bandit.

For an avowed socialist, you E score doesn't seem that low.

For an avowed socialist, you E score doesn't seem that low.

I can think of a few reasons for that. For starters, I am opposed to central planning and reject Marxist views on social conflict in favor of a variation of Bourdieu's neo-Weberian alternative, I have spent enough time discussing politics with classical liberals at the university to recognize some of the flaws with and weaknesses in traditional left-wing positions, and as a reformist I expect other people in generations yet to be born to build upon the foundations of what gets achieved in my lifetime - applying ideas and concepts that I was too biased to embrace in my years or was simply never around long enough to scrutinize and synthesize into my ideology.

Also, only one of my positions really nudges me over from the realm of social democratic thought to democratic socialism. To one from a relatively old-school socialist or laborite perspective, it would still be possible to consider me a strong advocate for a mixed, if not capitalist, system since I would like for the workers of any given firm to own and democratically control said firm rather than having everybody in society collectively own it and delegate responsibility for operating it to some of the workers. Though economics is not one of my strong suits, I have put a lot of thought into trying to figure out what went wrong with past attempts to implement socialism and how we could avoid those mistakes - or at the very least mitigate the severity of undesirable side-effects incurred by some policies - in the future.

Well. That and the quiz itself asks questions that reveal the fact I am much more cautious and pragmatic on issues pertaining to the economy than on those concerning traditional customs. Though I consider myself a socialist, in values I suppose somewhat more than prescriptions, to somebody with a -9 E score it might seem more fitting to regard me as a social democrat adhering to a hodgepodge of capitalist and socialist views, which would actually not be inaccurate if one looks beyond the fact I sympathize strongly with the latter relative to the former. One might even compare it to how certain elements off to the right do not consider the States a capitalist country because it strays too far from their purist ideal. For better or worse, I suppose this is one of the hazards of using malleable, ambiguous labels in politics. xD

As an aside note though, my rounded-off scores on this quiz from 2011 to present have been:

(E: -6, S: -8)
(E: -6, S: -8)
(E: -6, S: -9)
(E: -6, S: -8)
(E: -5, S: -8)
(E: -4, S: -7)
(E: -5, S: -8)

It is sort of awkward. My stances tend not to entirely align with those of any ideology or party. :<
