Trump Promises Oil & Gas Execs Free Rein — If They Contribute $1 Billion To Campaign

This is regressive policy for a political bribe. China is kicking our ass on renewable energy and increasingly EV's. Trump seeks to retard the United States on the key technologies we should be pushing and investing in to win the future. Trump is doing this for his own selfish purposes and will leave The United States in worse shape.

This story should be getting more coverage.

China would be kicking our butt in oil/natural gas too, if they actually had any.

It is precisely because of things like this that the US has not made as much progress on environmental issues as it could/should have made.

There's no indication that he's only willing to do end Biden's climate policies if they give him that money. He's saying they should give him money to help him get elected because he intends to do it.

The indication that Donald Trump thinks other people should give him money is his entire life and career.

Biden's energy policies have endangered our national security.

The "source" quoted here is a mouthpiece for EV makers and their investors.  They're not exactly muckrakers.  Donald Trump's positions on this issue have not changed since he announced his candidacy.

The source is The Washington Post, Trump and the oil companies have not denied the story. The link is a blog that covers technology breakthroughs and happenings related to climate.

"Soliciting donations as a political candidate from people who stand to benefit from your proposed policies" is not "seeking bribes".

How many donors to Biden are heavily invested in EV production?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Also, does anyone really believe that Trump (if inaugurated as president for the January 2025-January 2029 term) would choose not to "end Biden Climate policies" in the event that he did not receive those donations? Trump personally may indeed be quite petty, but I doubt he would suddenly adopt views on climate change held by Biden - which he has consistently strongly denounced Biden and other Democrats for holding throughout the entirety of his political career, and which the entirety of both the Republican Party and the "Trump base" (elites, non-elites, ordinary voters, and political operatives alike within both of those groups) strongly and vehemently oppose and consider any Republicans who support those views to be "traitors" - simply out of spite for oil and gas industry executives failing to give him a donation. In the 2016 election, the governments of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and GCC states favored Hillary over Trump as president, but Trump surely did not pursue a pro-Islamic Republic of Iran foreign policy during his first term as POTUS, for the exact same reason why Trump would not pursue to continue Biden's climate policies in his second term even if he does not receive this "bribe."

Perhaps, but most people have enough tact to not be this explicit about it.

Opinion | Trump's reported $1 billion ask from oil CEOs looks insanely corrupt

According to the Post, after an oil executive there complained that the hundreds of millions they had spent lobbying President Joe Biden hadn’t influenced his position on environmental regulations, Trump offered to make a deal with the executives that left many of them stunned:

Sources told the Post that Trump also said this apparent quid pro quo was a “deal” for the executives because of the savings they’d get when, assuming he wins, he guts taxes and regulations.

On a policy level, this is horrifying. Trump appears eager to accelerate worldwide climate disaster if it helps fill his campaign war chest. One does not have to think Biden’s climate policy is anywhere close to perfect to see how much more dangerous Trump’s worldview is in this policy area.

But the way Trump allegedly presented the deal is also poisonous. When powerful politicians meet behind closed doors with corporate executives and lobbyists looking to advance their interests, it’s always slimy business. But there are still norms and laws regulating how those behind-closed-door conversations should be conducted. And the Post’s reporting suggests that Trump transgressed those norms — potentially so severely that it breaks the law, according to some government watchdogs.

If Trump were the president of a South American country he’d be handing out buckets of food with his face on them in exchange for votes. I half expect him to do that in October anyway.

Spoken like the brand-obsessed son and heir of an Outer Boroughs real estate developer who negotiated with political bosses and Mob figures as a routine matter—practices that his son continued and expanded upon, nationally and globally.

There’s more than a hint of old-school urban machine politician in Trump.

Correct.

Natural gas too.

And renewables, of course.

Current trends indicate that US energy production will continue to increase by an estimated 18% by 2050; keeping well ahead of projected consumption.

As usual, Fuzzy Bear's assertion is badly in need of fact-based citation.
