Can one of the GOP members of this board, briefly explain to me why there is a lack of minorities (African-Americans, Hispanics, Asian-Americans), both in the Republican Congressional delegations and in the statehouses.

Sure the President Bush, appointed some highly qualified people to top level posts (Rice, Powell, Mineta, Chao), but why not in congress or as Governors?

The IL General Assembly has at least 1 Republican Hispanic Member. On our City Council the Aldermen are all technically non-partisan, but of the two Hispanic members, one is Democrat and one is Republican.

My projection of the 2010 Electoral College from 2009 estimates. Each state is sized to indicate the total votes in the EC. The colors indicate the changes since 2000: pink -1, red -2, green +1, cyan +2, blue +3.

Uhh Democrats bought the black vote via bribes and propaganda, and blacks and hispanics make less than whites on average (and income influences voting patterns quite strongly).

Not a Republican, but I'll give it a shot:

The question may be reducable to why minorities skew Democratic in the first place...from there the original question only remains interesting if there's a still a Proportional underrepresentation of minority legislators (of sufficient ideological conformity to the majority) in Republican districts compared to Democratic districts.

I don't think "bought off" is a true or constructive explanation of why minorites skew Democratic.  Income is a far better dimension of measure, although it's not a simple line by any means.

Is 'pandered to' a better way of putting it?  Personally I think bought off is completely accurate.

Blacks were coerced during the 1940s into voting Democrat. The reason why? They were threatened to have their economic benefits cut off if they stayed in the GOP. The Democrats are still up to their old tricks they used when they were slavers except now they try to enslave people by being economically dependent. Dependence on the Government = Slavery.

Mineta is a Democrat and I believe he did serve in Congress so I have no idea why you brought him up.

Several minorities have run for Congress and other local races as Republicans but were defeated either in the primary or general election. If you'd like me to list a few just ask..

Well he was appointed to his current position by Bush, so I guess that counts as a minority serving because of a Republican

Because the Republican Party is racist.

It's not so strange.

First, only x number of people have the talent and desire to go into politics.  Those that do will go to the party they have supported all their lives.  Most blacks support Democrats, so most minorities that enter politics will be Democrats.

Second, most blacks in congress come from majority minority districts.  These vote overwhelmingly democratic.  If the only districts that consistently elect blacks always go Democrat, then most members of congress that are black will be Democrats.

When America can get past " the Republican Party don't likes blacks" and move forward into the future together as one, no matter what color you are. Then the US will be the greatest nation in the world.

MLK dream was that every one in the Nation work together, but yet the Democrats try to tell the black people and minorities the republican party is not fighting for you. And I don't think that was MLK dream at all.

I say let the Minorities say if the party is fighing for them. One of the main reasons why I don't agree with AA is because it puts someone above another person. Anyways I'm getting off subject.

Because the Republican Party is racist.

Republicans have done more to advance the black race in this nation then Democrats by a LONG shot. Want me to post the list again?

The Democrats

Our nation's top historians reveal that the Democratic Party gave us the Ku Klux Klan, Black Codes, Jim Crow Laws and other repressive legislation which resulted in the multitude of murders, lynchings, mutilations, and intimidations (of thousands of black and white Republicans). On the issue of slavery: historians say the Democrats gave their lives to expand it, the Republicans gave their lives to ban it.

The Republicans

Regarding the Republican Party, historians report that while Democrats were busy passing laws to hurt blacks, Republicans devoted their time to passing laws to help blacks. Republicans were primarily responsible for the following Civil Rights legislation:

1. The Emancipation Proclamation
2. The 13th Amendment
3. The 14th Amendment
4. The 15th Amendment
5. The Reconstruction Act of 1867
6. The Civil Rights of 1866
7. The Enforcement Act of 1870
8. The Forced Act of 1871
9. The Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871
10. The Civil Rights Act of 1875
11. The Freeman Bureau
12. The Civil Rights Act of 1957
13. The Civil Rights Act of 1960
14. The United State Civil Rights Commission

And gave strong bi-partisan support and sponsorship for the following
legislation

15. The Civil Rights Act of 1964
17. The Voting Rights Act of 1965
18. The 1968 Civil Rights Acts
19. The Equal Opportunity Act of 1972
20. Goals and Timetables for Affirmative Action Programs
21. Comprehensive Employment Training Act of 1973
22. Voting Rights Act of Amendment of 1982
23. Civil Rights Act of 1983
24. Federal Contract Compliance and Workforce Development Act of 1988

Programs By Republicans & their Supporters include:

a. Many of our key traditional Black Colleges are named after Republicans Colleges
b. The Freedman Bureau
c. Historians say that three whites that opposed the Democrat's racist practices, including the lynching of blacks, founded and funded the NAACP

Republicans have done more to advance the black race in this nation then Democrats by a LONG shot.

Not in the past 50 years. In the 1963 election for governor of Kentucky, the Republican was a staunch segregationist, while the Democrat was a strong supporter of new civil rights laws. (By the way, the Democrat won.)

Can we just agree that both parties have had their share of racists?
