I actually made an animated version of this a while ago, might as well post it:
I also made one of the DC-Baltimore area for 1990 and 2000.
I had been planning to do the Atlanta area, too, but never got around to it.

The census hasn't had it as an option for very long, so it wouldn't really be possible to do it.

The state maps aren't all that helpful. County maps would be a lot more illustrative of what occured in the Great Migration. Blacks have moved from being a rural to being a largely urban people. Also the move to North in the 20th century was almost completely restricted to cities. The small town Northern states (and upland South for that matter) are still lily white.

dropping
. Nevada has a lot of black people, which is expected considering the whole state is basically two cities. The black population could also be growing in places like Arizona and Colorado.

The black population of San Diego is falling. Expected to go from 8% to 5% by 2030.
