Former President George W. Bush will unveil The 4% Solution: Unleashing the Economic Growth America Needs next week, which the New York Times calls "neither campaign template nor partisan screed. It is a wonky paean to free enterprise."

"For the first time since leaving office three and a half years ago, Mr. Bush is advancing a variety of ideas about how to jump-start economic growth by restructuring taxes, expanding trade, encouraging innovation, fixing immigration and overhauling Social Security. He wrote the foreword for the book, a collection of essays from an array of economists, including five Nobel Prize winners, and he proposes a national goal of expanding the economy by 4 percent a year on a sustained basis."

A new Mason-Dixon poll in Florida finds Gov. Rick Scott's (R) positive name recognition also remains low, with 29% of voters viewing him favorably, 37% unfavorably, 30% neutral and 4% with no opinion.

Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is banking on support from a large portion of voters who oppose President Barack Obama.

The swing states are in the spotlight this week, with Sunday shows dissecting the issues that are likely to decide the 2012 presidential race.

Oprah Winfrey visited Wolfeboro, N.H., on Friday for a sit-down interview with Mitt Romney and his wife, Ann.

Republican Dan Roberts will face Democratic candidate Jared Huffman in the general election. Roberts earned 15% of the vote in the “top two” primary for the congressional race in California’s 2nd congressional district. In a biographical article about Roberts, the Marin Independent Journal noted his earlier connections to smaller political parties:

“…Roberts, who had left the Republican Party to join Ross Perot’s Reform Party, couldn’t re-register as a Republican in time to qualify for the June 8, 2010 primary. At the last minute, Roberts tried to get his name on the ballot as the American Independent Party’s nominee but failed.”

According to his website, his campaign has also been endorsed by the American Independent Party. Roberts, a military veteran, has attracted the attention of some non-interventionists for a quote on his website advocating ”benign foreign policy: no wars of adventure. Stop nation building.” The candidate with the third-highest vote total in this race was activist Norman Solomon who at one point was registered as a member of the Green Party. Roberts defeated Solomon by 172 votes. Solomon conceded to Roberts on June 26.
