Through cross-filing, Riley was nominated under the Republican and Democratic tickets.
Ray Riley resigned at the end of 1936 to become a Railroad Commissioner. Harry B. Riley (no relation) was appointed on January 9, 1937 to fill the vacancy and served the remainder of the term.
