The 1968 United States general election was held on November 5 of that year.

Presidential Election

Results by state with electoral votes. Blue represents Nixon states, red Humphrey states, and green Wallace states. Note that one Nixon elector in North Carolina voted for Wallace.

In the presidential election, former Vice President and Republican nominee Richard Nixon defeated the Democratic candidate and sitting Vice President, Hubert Humphrey. Notably, George Wallace, the former Democratic governor of Alabama, ran as an independent and carried five states.
